Coming Up: MBCCWA Christmas Party – Tuesday 8th December

We’ll be finishing off the year with a low-key Christmas Party, to be held at our club rooms at the South Perth Lawn Tennis Club, McNabb Loop in Como, and kicking off at 7:30pm.

The club will be providing soft drinks, tea and coffee with members asked to provide a dish to share. There will be a Christmas cake, so savoury and side dishes would be preferred.

It should be a great evening and a fitting send-off to the club year. If your lucky you might even get a glass from the last remaining bottles of MBCCWA club wine!

November Coffee Run – Tuesday 10th November

Taking the place of our monthly meeting in November is a short, inner-city cruise to a local establishment for evening refreshments. This year we headed West to the delightful riverside venue that is The Left Bank.

35 members met in the car park of our usual meeting place, the South Perth Lawn Tennis Club, for a very brief update on all things club related. The new lights there facilitated a great area to showcase the cross-section of cars we have in the club, including a brand new CLS Shooting Break, delivered only 4 days prior!

Our cruise to Fremantle took the most direct route, purely to maximise the time we had to socialise at The Left Bank. With our VIP area secured, members sat back to enjoy a selection of what the venue had to offer, from coffee to pizza! A great night was had by all and we’re looking forward to more events like this in the future.

Brockwell Run & Kids’ Day – Sunday 8th November

With more and more younger members of our club, comes more kids too. That’s why this year we added a kids’ day to our calendar which was a good excuse to spend a beautiful Sunday morning in Kings Park.

Of course there were cars involved, since the day began in Fremantle to watch the start of the Brockwell Run. For those unaware, this yearly event honours Maurice Brockwell who was not only a pioneering hotelier in Perth, but also a past president of our club. Approximately 160 cars of various makes met in Fremantle prior to their drive to Whiteman Park.

Our members however, took a shorter route to the Lotterywest Playground at Kings Park where a selection of delicious cupcakes awaited them, along with the final chance to secure tickets for the 300SL raffle.

The kids enjoyed a good run around and certainly wore themselves out in what must be one of Perth’s largest outdoor playgrounds. That wasn’t before 2-year old Lauren Evans drew out the winning raffle ticket which saw Jason Molloy take away the (much sought after by parents and kids alike!) electric-powered 300SL.

2015 Annual Display Day – Sunday 25th October

The 2015 Annual Display Day saw a great turnout, with over 30 members appearing at Barbagallo Raceway to show off their gleaming pride and joys.

Of particular note was a group of nine W124-chassis vehicles formed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the model, with all body styles (including saloon, estate, coupé and cabriolet) being represented.

We were also very proud to welcome along several new members for their first club event. Welcome aboard!

A big thank you to all members for preparing and bringing their vehicles. It certainly was a real treat.

4th Como Rotary Club Classic Car Show – Sunday 4th October

This new event is only its fourth year but already feels like a well established (and certainly well organised!) event that is a fantastic addition to our club’s calendar.

Some 180+ cars were on display, including (but not limited to) Alfa Romeos, Bentleys, BMWs, Chevrolets, De Sotos, Fords, Holdens, Jaguars, Rolls-Royces, Vauxhalls and of course our club’s 20 Mercedes-Benz.

The grounds at Wesley College make for an inviting atmosphere and the food on hand as well as the proximity to the Angelo St cafe strip meant that we were kept well fed all day.

A big thanks to MBCCWA and Rotary Club Como member Bill Kirkham for letting us be a part of a great day.

Workshop Day at Auto Exclusive – Saturday 19th September

What a treat for our members! Auto Exclusive played hosts to some 35 of our members for today’s workshop day. We were treated to a fantastic selection of cars in and around the workshop in East Perth, giving everyone a great chance to catch up and chat about everything Mercedes-Benz. Last but not least, a big thanks to Walter and Liz Epple for hosting us today. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Don’t forget, club members receive 10% off labour costs at Auto Exclusive.

Weekend away to Margaret River

Thanks in no small way to Pam van Dam, 29 of our members and their families took a journey down south to Margaret River, stopping for lunch in Cowaramup along the way.

An overnight stay was followed by breakfast at the hotel and the journey home via the Gabriel Chocolate Factory and the Aravina Estate (and Motor Museum) for lunch.

There were a total of 13 Mercedes-Benz travelling in convoy, ranging from a 1988 300CE to the very latest GLA45 AMG. Everyone had an amazing time, with a great turnout and no doubt a sign of what we can all continue to experience at future events!

A full wrap up of the weekend will be in the next Megastar magazine, due to hit letterboxes in early October.

  • Immediate Past President: Paul Blank
  • Librarian: Bruce Williams

AGM Done and dusted…

The MBCCWA’s 2015 Annual General Meeting was held at The Vic Hotel in Subiaco on Friday the 14th of August.

Outgoing president Paul Blank addressed some 44 members in attendance, reporting on what has been an extraordinary 12 months for the club.

Outgoing secretary Trent Chellingworth the provided an update on the club’s current financial position, tabling the treasurer’s financial report and offering an insight into what lies ahead.

The evening also marked a changing of the guard, with some committee members stepping down and members electing the following new executive committee line-up:

  • President: Trent Chellingworth
  • Vice-president: George Kopsen
  • Treasurer: Eva Bellaire
  • Secretary: Todd Cooper
  • Editor: David Pescott

As proposed, several minor changes to the club’s constitution were also discussed and approved by members.

Members also voted on the Club Member of the Year, awarding it to George Kopsen by a narrow margin.

Once formalities were out of the way, members enjoyed each others’ company at the bar on the private balcony.

Thank you to all those who attended the AGM, and those who have served on the outgoing committee with dedication.

This year promises to be a new and exciting era for the MBCCWA and there’s still time to get involved with the new committee.

A Stormy night for the President’s Dinner

Wow! Even Perth’s wild winter weather couldn’t keep the MBCCWA President’s Dinner from being a roaring success!

Some 80 members and guests descended upon Royal Perth Golf Club on Friday the 19th of June to hear president Paul Blank’s reflection on the club’s current position, and were amazing by guest speaker Rosco McGlashan’s address on his next land-speed mission,

The all-new CLA45 AMG 4MATIC Shooting Brake was also displayed alongside the president’s E55 AMG, attracting quite a few looks from the guests.

Special thanks to sponsor Diesel Motors and MBCCWA’s own events co-ordinator Natasha Hunt for arranging this very special evening on the green.
