The Mercedes-Benz Club of Sri Lanka represented the country at the Mercedes-Benz Star Driver 2006,held for the first time outside Germany, with about 80 cars aged up to 54 years on a rally from Feb 24th to Feb 26th 2006.
The collection of Mercedes-Benz vehicles from various eras travelled up Chaing Mai's glorious hills, through the dusty village tracks and onto a parade down the streets of thailand's second largest city. Our Club representatives were hosted by gracious Thai Hosts with their traditional friendliness and warmth.
There were some stunning cars from a 1955 300SL Gullwing, a 1957 190SL, a 30's 170V.
We hope that there's a day Sri Lanka can sponsor a Mercedes Star drive during peaceful time in the future where we can summon up the impressive cast of great Mercedes residing on Sri Lankan shores.
